Holiday Planning

Let's just say my holidays are not going to be typically spent with family, at Christmas parties, opening up presents under the Christmas tree. No, no, no they will be filled with delays, security, and lonely hotel rooms. Ooh the sweet life of reserve and no seniority hahaha. But not everything is as terrible as it may seem. Take for instance this last Thanksgiving. While my lovely James family was prepping for an amazing traditional family feast I was flying to Casper, Wyoming to stay overnight and leave at 6 AM the next morning. Giving into the fact that I would be spending most of the evening hanging out in my hotel room I accepted the lame holiday planned out for me this year. Luckily a wonderful airport employee invited the whole crew to join her family and have a Thanksgiving there. It was really great! Brought the meaning of Thanksgiving out more then ever before. Such selfless people to open up their doors to complete strangers and invite us to share the holiday with them. I am indebted with gratitude to that kind family and their friends for making my Thanksgiving one of the best I've ever had. We were very well fed-all the food made from scratch including the pies-then we finished up with hours of playing the game SCUM. Which actually ended up hitting home for me even more then anything that night seeing as I come from both sides of a family that are heavy into games. It was an amazing Thanksgiving and someday I hope that I can return the favor to either them or to another person in need of a holiday get up :)

In the meantime whenever I'm back in SLC I like to get as much time as I can to play and relax. It's hard to find the time and do all the responsible stuff in between but I think I've managed a pretty good schedule thus far. Also I try hard to hangout with all my family and friends when I am home so that they don't forget I'm alive ha ha. Most recently I went to a concert at the Star Bar in Park City and it was one of the best concerts I've been to recently. Snowboarding is one of the top time consuming activities I do as well when I'm home. It's nice to just hit the slopes and take in the beauty of Utah and work on improving my skills especially when I have great company that join me.

I hope I'll be blessed this month to meet new people and enjoy the holidays as much as possible even if I'm miles away from my home.

1. “Want to start off on the wrong foot with me? Put your carry-on in a full overhead bin, leave it sticking out six inches, then take your seat at the window and wait for someone else (me!) to come along and solve the physics problem you just created.”

“Yes, passengers are incredibly rude, but stealing a beer, cursing out passengers, and jumping out of a plane the way Steven Slater did is not the way to handle it. You disarm an unruly passenger by introducing yourself, asking his name, and saying something like ‘I’ve been incredibly nice to you for three hours. Why are you treating me like this?’ Generally that gets the other passengers on your side—and sometimes they’ll even applaud.”

3. “We don’t have a boyfriend in every city. And our median age these days is 44.”

4. “If you’re traveling with a small child and you keep hearing bells, bells, and more bells, please look to see if it’s your child playing with the flight attendant call bell.”

5. “An all-too-common scenario: I hand you a cup of coffee and say, ‘Cream and sugar?’ You say, ‘What?’ I say, ‘Cream and sugar?’ You say, ‘What?’ Come on, people. What do you think we’re going to ask after we’ve handed you coffee? Your favorite color?”

10. “If you’re traveling overseas, do yourself a favor and bring a pen. You would not believe how many people travel without one, and you need one to fill out the immigration forms. I carry some, but I can’t carry 200.”

11. “Passengers are always coming up to me and tattling on each other. ‘Can you tell him to put his seat up?’ ‘She won’t share the armrest.’ What am I, a preschool teacher?”

12. “I hate working flights to destinations like Vail and West Palm Beach. The passengers all think they’re in first class even if they’re not. They don’t do what we ask. And the overhead bins are full of their mink coats.”

13. “Do you really have to go to the bathroom right now, while we’re wrestling a 250-pound food cart down the aisle? You can’t wait 90 seconds for us to pass?”

Work Hard Play Hard...All in One

I've just started my new career as a Flight Attendant and it has been an adventure! 3 months so far so I'm pretty fresh off the boat or plane I should say...haha. Despite the three weeks of intense training and the constant crappy reserve newbie schedule I must endure I have been having a blast. Especially when I'm getting paid to hangout in other cities and check out the sites becoming more like a vacation then work. I am just barely returning from a 5 day stay in Chicago. I've never been to the Windy City before so it was definitely a treat to explore the place as well as being fortunate enough to have 3 other reserve flight attendants there to keep me company. I'm bummed I didn't get to see some of my friends from my training class living there though so I'll be coming back to kick it with them soon. But I did hangout with my girl Sharla from my class it was the first time I had anyone from training to work with...so great. Not only is hanging out with the crews and checking out different cities a great perk to the job so is my free travel benefits. Now I can fly basically anywhere for free or super cheap. I already have been able to visit my bestest friend cousin Charli in Pennsylvania for only a couple of days and plan to be putting the travel benefits into more use this december to go to St. Thomas :) Because life is just becoming so exciting with each travel experience I decided to try and document most of my trips about the flights, the sites, and the people. With so much down time in the hotel on certain trips this will be a great way to pass that time and show the exciting life of a flight attendant for others.
